With its iPhones, Apple has managed to create something that goes beyond technology.

Apple has managed to create a unique user experience. People feel different with their iPhones. In fact, they feel better. They don't have a smartphone, they have an iPhone.

It's the same with all Apple products.

Apart from this community side that Apple has managed to create, we must admit that iPhones are often superior to the competition in terms of performance. The iPhone offers you a unique unified experience. Everything is optimized because Apple owns the hardware and software of its devices.

For smartphones on Android, this is much more difficult to achieve.

When you have an iPhone, everything seems simple. You don't have to tinker like with Android devices. Android devices are often more complicated to use. The user experience is less optimized.

All of this comes at a cost. Nevertheless, Apple's customers consider that this cost is justified since they continue to buy iPhones on a massive scale. So Apple is right to continue to do so.

However, we can see that Apple has been trying for a few years now to attract more customers by launching a mid-range model like the iPhone SE. At the time of Steve Jobs, this could never have existed.

Steve Jobs would have considered that this was detrimental to the premium perception of Apple products.

You need to take a better look. The iOS in the iPhone is updated for 5 years from the introduction date. You can expect more than just one iOS update but they do over lap. Figure at least 7 years of security updates for an iPhone.

Android OS is supported 2 years from the date it’s introduced then Google drops it. (Samsung said something about supporting a phone for 3 years BTW) you will get 1 OS update. Notice we are talking about when the OS was introduced, not when you bought the phone. The best you get with Android is 4 years and that’s only if every thing was timed right.

As a note Apple just updated the OS of the 6/s & 6/s Plus that was sold back in 2015 to the newest iOS. Admittedly I expect this is the last iOS update that model will get but hey some lucky people own phones that will have security updates for 10 years.

Take when the issuing date of the OS that the Android phone you are looking at comes with and see where the 2 year mark is. Add two more to that and you know when the phone will not get updates. Using that info you can figure out what it will cost per year on the time that is left.

For new model of iPhone just divide the cost by 5 and you will know what it will cost to own per year. You should get a bit better but hey lets low ball the figure.

Compare the cost looking at it that way then decide, iPhone SE 2020 will be my next phone. ($400)
